Higher education:

The higher education system is made up of institutions which, being autonomous or having received official recognition by federal or state authorities, is part of the so called National Education System.

Universidades.

En el ciclo escolar 2008-2009, la Secretaría de Educación Pública tuvo un registro de 4,462 planteles universitarios, de las cuales 1,968 eran públicos y 2,494 privados.

Alumnos.

En el ciclo 2008-2009  a nivel nacional, las instituciones universitarias en su conjunto atendieron a poco más de 2.8 millones de alumnos. Las públicas cubrieron el 67 por ciento de esa matrícula total mientras las privadas cubrieron el otro 33 por ciento. Si se analizan los datos anteriores a la luz de la historia, destaca el hecho de que en 1950 los estudiantes universitarios representaban sólo el 1 por ciento de la población del grupo de edad entre 19 y 23 años. Para el ciclo señalado, es decir 55 años después, ese mismo porcentaje fue del 26 por ciento, lo que significa que la actualidad uno de cada cuatro jóvenes en edad universitaria tiene un lugar en ese nivel educativo. Lo anterior habla de un gran avance de nuestro país en materia de educación, sin embargo, es importante hoy más que nunca que nuestra autoridades educativas sigan expandiendo posibilidades para garantizar crecimiento a la velocidad que la sociedad lo exige. 

University level studies:

University level first stage: Licenciatura/Título profesional; Profesor/Maestro; Grado de Técnico Superior Universitario:

The usual entrance qualification is the Bachillerato. In addition, students normally have to take an entrance examination. Courses leading to the Licenciatura normally last for four years, but five years for certain professional qualifications (e.g. Engineer, Dentist, Architect) and six years for Medicine. To obtain the title, students must obtain all the credits in the course, participate in the social service, prepare a thesis and sit for a professional examination.

Sometimes, other academic requirements are to be met. In some universities, they do not need to sit for the examination to obtain the title.

University level second stage: Maestría or Especialización:

Students must hold a Licenciatura. Studies leading to the title of Maestro last for two years.

University level third stage: Doctorado:

Students must hold a Licenciatura or a Maestría. The title of Doctor is conferred on those who have fulfilled the corresponding requirements.

Non-traditional studies: Distance higher education Distance higher education is offered in a great many institutions.

Artículo 59.- Los particulares que presten servicios por los que se impartan estudios sin reconocimiento de validez oficial, deberán mencionarlo en su correspondiente documentación y publicidad.

Artículo 60.- Los estudios realizados dentro del sistema educativo nacional tendrán validez en toda la República.

Las instituciones del sistema educativo nacional expedirán certificados y otorgarán constancias, diplomas, títulos o grados académicos a las personas que hayan concluido estudios de conformidad con los requisitos establecidos en los planes y programas de estudio correspondientes. Dichos certificados, constancias, diplomas, títulos y grados tendrán validez en toda la República.

La Secretaría promoverá que los estudios con validez oficial en la República sean reconocidos en el extranjero.

Die Studien, die innerhalb des nationalen Bildungssystems realisiert wurden, haben in der ganzen Republik Gültigkeit.

Die Institutionen des nationalen Bildungssystems stellen Zeugnisse aus und verteilen Bestätigungen, Diplome, Titel oder akademische Grade an jene Personen, welche Studien abgeschlossen haben in Übereinstimmung mit den Anforderungen, die in den entsprechenden Studienplänen und Programmen festgelegt sind. Die besagten Zeugnisse, Bestätigungen, Diplome, Titel und Grade haben in der ganzen Republik Gültigkeit.

Das Ministerium hat zu fördern, dass die Studien mit offizieller Gültigkeit in der Republik im  Ausland anerkannt werden sollen.

LEY PARA LA COORDINACIÓN DE LA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR

ARTÍCULO 3.- El tipo educativo superior es el que se imparte después del bachillerato o de su equivalente. Comprende la educación normal, la tecnológica y la universitaria e incluye carreras profesionales cortas y estudios encaminados a obtener los grados de licenciatura, maestría y doctorado, así como cursos de actualización y especialización.

IACET's Criteria and Guidelines are the core of thousands of educational programs worldwide. Universidad Azteca accepts IACET Continuous Education Units CEU´s.
